Removing the Mask

We live in a society that teaches us to mask who we really are.

Well, not directly. In fact, think about how many times you’ve heard the saying ‘just be yourself’!

But yet, in a way, our society contradicts itself.

Peer pressure causes us to act like our friends.

Magazines cause us to want to look a certain way.

We slowly build up a fake identity until it completely covers who we used to be. And the sad thing is that even among our closest friends we don’t dare show who we really are underneath.

I’ve been guilty of this too.

But maybe it’s time to remove the mask, because what you are underneath is so much more amazing than the identity you’ve spent all this time trying to build.

Who you really are is worth so much more than who you try to be.
